Donor

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is the Swiss Government’s center of competence for international cooperation. SDC is responsible for development cooperation with the South and East, multilateral cooperation as well as for Switzerland’s humanitarian aid.

Starting with humanitarian assistance in 1998, Switzerland’s cooperation with Kosovo has increasingly been shifted to supporting transition processes. The overall goal of the Swiss programme is to contribute to the progress of Kosovo on its path towards regional and European integration, peaceful and cohesive society, providing inclusive access to essential services, the rule of law and a social market economy.

The overall objective of the Swedish reform cooperation with Kosovo is to facilitate EU integration and market economy development, to improve people’s living conditions and to reduce poverty. The support has its focus on reforms and on strengthening public institutions, supporting and contributing to a pluralistic civil society, gender equality and respect for human rights as well as an environmentally sustainable development. Sweden is one of the five largest donors in Kosovo.

Development Cooperation

Norway has provided extensive development assistance to Kosovo since the late 1990s. Whereas much of the early assistance was of a humanitarian nature, related to the build-up after the Kosovo war in 1998-99, Norway has since supported activities within education, anti-corruption, rule of law, good governance, European integration, job creation, environmental protection, safety and security, peace and reconciliation, human rights, independent media, culture and arts. Norwegian assistance has had a particular emphasis on improving the situation for minorities, women and youth.

Today the Norwegian development assistance to Kosovo is directed to the areas of: economic development, rule of law, European integration and civil society.
