HELVETAS, SUPPORTER OF LOCAL INVESTORS IN KOSOVO

Under the project of Skills for Rural Employment (S4RE), the Swiss organization HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation, in its pilot program in Sharri Mountain and Kamenica and Novo Brdo municipalities’ area, is exploring cooperation opportunities regarding generation of new jobs.

During the calls for cooperation, were established first contacts with several companies and individuals. One of them was “Malësia” dairy in Kamenica, whose owner, Mr. Ibrahim Gashi worked for many years in Switzerland and invested his savings worth of 1.8 million Swiss francs, in “Malësia” dairy in Kamenica. Initially it employed 11 full time employees as well 72 farmers from whom are collected around 2,000 litres of milk per day.

During the training with milk processing interested persons, organized by HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation, the dairy afterwards hired 3 employees out of 7 trained persons, promising the employment of others as well.

Director of the dairy “Malësia”, Mr. Naim Gashi is dedicated to fulfil his parent wish in most successful way, and enjoys a proper cooperation with S4RE project and respective municipal bodies.

Currently cumulative milk price ranges from 25.6 cents to 33.6 cents per litre, which is considered to be on a level of cumulative price in the region.

From cumulative milk the following are processed: sour cream, yogurt, cheese, pasteurised milk, whey, cottage cheese, cream etc. He is selling its final products in the municipality of Kamenica, Gjilan, Viti, Ferizaj, Kaçanik, Hani Elezit all the way to Hajvali, and soon in Prishtina.

“I’m happy that thanks to my investment here, my children are returning to my beloved Kamenica,” says Ibrahim Gashi, whereas regarding milk production, he believes in a sustainable productivity, considering the large number of farmers and dairy cows in the municipality of Kamenica.
