The training on “Budget Planning and Execution” successfully concluded
The Performance Grant evaluates the performance of municipalities in the areas of democratic governance, municipal management, and transparency and integrity.
The needs assessment report has shown that municipalities face budget spending problems due to poor budget planning and execution. For this reason, a series of trainings were held for municipal representatives in the area of financial management, namely in the area of budget planning and execution.
Shqiponja Vokshi, DEMOS project official, stated: “Selection of training topics based on the training needs assessment will contribute to municipalities improving their performance in the project action areas”.
The two-day trainings aimed at exchanging experiences and identifying mechanisms to strengthen the knowledge and skills of municipal representatives regarding municipal budget planning and execution.
“Interactivity and teamwork during the training helped us identify solutions to problems we face in the process of planning and executing the municipal budget,” said Kreshnik Zejnullahu, a budget officer in the Municipality of Mitrovica. Among other things, he added that these solutions are very practical and usable in every aspect of the internal financial control of municipalities.
Performance Grant data analysis shows that municipalities’ performance is not satisfactory when it comes to budget execution. The importance of enhancing the ability to adequately forecast and allocate revenues and expenditures that will help increase municipal performance was also emphasized by Ilire Daija Buza, DEMOS project official.
“The training will enhance the skills of municipal officials on the general principles and technical principles of budgeting and budget execution,” she added.
Within the framework of the program for municipal officials’ capacity building through training courses, DEMOS project supports Kosovo municipalities to increase their performance.
