Integrity, Women Representation, and Participation Training

Past two months, DEMOS has concluded its two day training course “Integrity, Women Representation, and Participation at the municipal level”. This particular training course was designed and delivered for municipal assembly members.

“Last two months, we managed to bring together municipal assembly members from various municipalities to identify useful mechanisms to increase the participation and representation of women at local level and give them the opportunity to exchange experiences. Furthermore, to learn about the importance of municipal integrity plans and its implementation. ” explains Fatime Rrahmani from DEMOS team.

This particular course was delivered to around 270 municipal assembly members of Kosovo municipalities.

According to Durim Hajra, the assembly member in Fushe Kosovë/Kosovo Polje municipality, the knowledge and conclusions drawn from this training will be very helpful for the work of assembly members, both in advocacy, oversight and inclusion of requirements for a gender-balanced budget, but also in encouraging the inclusion of women in decision-making processes at the local level.

Whereas, Xhejlane Behluli, the assembly member in Novobërdë/Novo Brdo municipality, appreciates the work done by DEMOS staff. She considers that trainings delivered by DEMOS project had direct impact and made her a more successful assembly member, “The training was very interactive and informative, especially in regards to the importance of integrity plans and women’s participation in decision-making,” she explains.

The DEMOS training program aims to increase job-related competencies of the municipal officials and assembly members in Democratic Governance, Municipal Management and in Transparency and Integrity.

The overall objective of this program is to support municipalities to improve performance in lower scoring Performance Grant indicators.
